Looking ahead to the 2019-20 season
With USA Hockey again reaching record-number participation, the need to expand our registration period and offer even more opportunities for officials to fulfill their registration requirements is upon us. USA Hockey is also continuing our leadership role in player safety, with enhanced SafeSport requirements and a special rules initiatives surrounding body checking intended to create a safer environment on the ice and impact the hockey culture. Announcing the new Advanced Officiating Symposium
 
The 2019-20 season brings the start of USA Hockey's Tenured Officials Program with the creation of the Advanced Officiating Symposium. The Tenured Officials Program is designed to reward those officials who have been dedicated to USA Hockey for many seasons and have made the commitment to attend the Advanced Officiating Symposium. USA Hockey Officiating Education Program Director Matt Leaf answered some questions about the new symposium, which will be held July 26-28, 2019, in Bloomington, Minnesota. READ MORE »

Body-checking standard of play
 
Officials must set a high enforcement standard for the rules of the game, especially when it comes to body-checking. The purpose of a body check should be separating the opponent from the puck. When a player goes beyond that purpose, officials must intervene. READ MORE »
